I don't think we necessarily need a monarchy; politically, the royal family needs to be (supposedly) neutral and is encouraged not to get too involved, and we could still profit from our monarchical history in a republic by, for example, converting former royal buildings into museums. The existence of a monarchy also goes against Britain's democratic values and obliterates any hope of a level playing field by promoting elitism.
However, there are greater issues in the world than our monarchy. I think that focusing on removing our monarchy when the world is rampant with war, hunger, and starvation is, in some ways, selfish and is at least a misdirection of our attention. As many historical revolutions have proven, it could lead to needless spending and even possible bloodshed.
